Marianne Beate Kielland

Marianne Beate Kielland, a versatile and acclaimed mezzo-soprano, is the sole Norwegian singer with a US Grammy nomination for Best Vocal Classical Album. With a vast repertoire spanning centuries, she is in high demand as a soloist with orchestras and opera houses worldwide. She made more than 60 recordings of works by Bach, Händel, Vivaldi, Caldara, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Schumann, Mahler, Mussorgsky, Martin, Chausson, Korngold, von Suppé, Schönberg, Webern, Berg and Sigurd Islandsmoen.

In the 2023/24 season, she performs the role of Cornelia in Händel’s Giulio Cesare with Bach Collegium Japan, and makes her role debut as Annio in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito at the Mozartwoche in Salzburg. In concert, she performs Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in Rotterdam and Munich, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in Lisbon and St John’s Passion in Stavanger, songs by Alma Mahler in Helsingborg, Frank Martin’s Golgotha in Amsterdam, among many other projects.

In addition to her soloist career, she leads the Oslo Chamber Music Festival and is an associate professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
